You know those kinds of days? You know that kind that seems
like you are forever busy? I know a day like that, it wasn’t a bad kind of busy, just an annoying kind.
You see, I was going to school because it was Monday. But, there was one bad thing that was haunting me all week-end! The Latin and math test!
Sure, I was okay at Latin, but I was
never any good at math. Ahh, well. I
suppose that you are thinking, so what?
You fail a test. Big deal! Why are you telling us about this??? We have lives
too!!! But you see, mom and dad said that if I passed the test, they would
get me a kitten. But if I failed, (like I usually do) I would get grounded
studying Latin and Math, doing’ nothing else but eating and sleeping.
I arrived at school. “Hi, Shorty! You gonna copy off of
Levi’s homework? He would probably do better than you!” Bucky, the school bully snickered as he pointed to Levi, who
was in third grade, I was in sixth! I stuck my tongue out at him, and threw a
poof-ball that was on the sidewalk by me at him. It hit him in the face. My
principal appeared. “Lindsay, you know better. See me during recess.” He said
to me. My shoulders slumped and I glared at Bucky. He smiled with satisfaction,
and I grabbed Levi’s hand and sauntered off. “Come on Levi. We don’t need to be
around bullies.” I said. Levi was my friend, Kate’s little brother. We eventually ran into Kate and she was
smiling at us until she saw my frown. “Bucky was picking on Lindsay.” Levi
said. Kate looked up from her little brother to me. “Again?” she asked. I
nodded. “Gotta go! Mrs. Kirkingwood is calling for me to come to class!” Levi
said and he trotted off. Soon another teacher, Mr. Lelli was calling for the
sixth graders.
Kate and I ran to class as fast as we could. We really had to run! Our class was on the
other side of the building, whereas, Levis’ class was just in the front of the
building. Lucky!
“Okay class! As you know we will be having a Latin and Math
test today. So, I hope you are all ready!!!” Mr. Lelli said as he raised one eyebrow,
embarrassingly enough, at me.
Everyone murmured in excitement, except Bucky who snickered at me. “Freak.” I
whispered as soon as Mr. Lelli turned his back. That was a horrible idea. Apparently Mr. Lelli has good hearing. Too good perhaps. He turned round. “Miss
Tango, would you come sit up here?” he said as he pointed to a small desk that
was next to his desk. The desk was built for kindergartener’s, the desk was
light blue, and the chair was the shape of a dog. The legs of it, (which were
very thick) said: I Share with Others! Ewww! I was so embarrassing, usually I
was a good girl in class, but meeting with the principal probably made Mr.
Lelli stricter. My cheeks flushed as I walked up to the desk, Kate looked at me
with sad eyes, and Bucky was smiling slyly. I glared at him until Mr. Lelli
said “Lindsay, sit.” The class tried to hold back laughter, I could tell. Mr.
Lelli looked down at me; then he handed me my test, well, everyone’s tests. I
had to pass all of them out. When I gave Bucky his, he said”I see you really do share with others.” He snickered. Mr.
Lelli must have heard him too. “Bartholomew. Get over here, you take your test
in front of my desk on the floor while taking your test.” Bucky frowned, nobody
had known his name up to now. Bartholomew?
I thought. All this time, his name has
been Bartholomew? I tried to hold back laughter as Buck- I mean, Bartholomew went up to the desk and sat
down. Then I remembered my demise. I was sad again.
Soon both of the tests were took and over with! Tomorrow it
would be graded. Sure, I took the test. But that did not increase my confidence
when Levi, Kate, and I all walked home. Kate lived next door, so we sent
messages through a pulley that was from one window to the other. We had tied a
bucket to it, so we could also send things.
Later that night, way after mom and dad were asleep, I sent
a message to Kate. It read: Kate, SOS, I cant sleep! I’m to nervous about the
test! Please come to me! SOS,
Lindsay Tango
I thought that Kate would be asleep, but it was worth a
shot. Good shot! A message came back saying: I’ll be right there! Hold on, and
I will SYS!
Kate Blemy
Soon a soft knock at my door appeared. Kate stood in the doorway,
and I motioned her up to my room. Mom and dad gave me permission to ask Kate to
spend the night anytime unless grounded, so this was okay.
We were soon up in my bedroom, I made a place for Kate to
sleep on the ground. “You really are nervous!” Kate whispered. “I’ sure you
will do great!” she assured me. “I’m sure I’ll do badly.” I sad in response. She tilted her
head. “You’re sometimes such a gloom and
doom person.” I nodded. “Yep, sadly, I'm usually right.”
Kate and I walked together to school, Levi beside us. “You
nervous?” he asked. Kat shook her head, but I nodded. “Why you nervous Lindsay?”
Levi asked. “’cause I stink at math and
Latin.” I told. “Oh, I’m sure your not that bad!” he said. I shook my head. “Oh,
I’m really that bad.”
As we were waling to class I started thinking about the test
more. I had studied more than I usually did because I wanted a kitten. Maybe
Levi was right. Perhaps I would at least
get a D+! Probably not.
We arrived in class and Mr. Lelli handed us our test
results. Kate turned her paper’s toward me. ‘Latin- B-, Math-B+. I bit my tongue
when Mr. Lelli handed me my results. I closed my eyes. Please be good! ‘Math B+! Latin- A!’ I nearly shrieked. Mr. Lelli
smiled at me.
When I got home is showed my parents my test results. “Wow!
Good studying, Honey!” my dad said. “Here is your kitten, Lindsay.” My mom
handed me the little furry bundle. I kissed it. Boy! Does hard work pay off!
