“Dear
Julie,
I hope
that you won’t take this badly. But I just got news that me and my family will
be moving to Harrisburg Pennsylvania for my dad’s job, we are going to leave in
one week. I won’t be able to write much
either, on account that I will be taking music, and gymnastics class, in
addition to school. But there is good news too. I will be coming back to
California every year, so we can still stay in touch. I would like you to take
care of my Parakeet Juno, I can’t bring him on my trip…” as I wrote this, tears
ran down my cheeks. I had owned Juno for three years; I talked to him about
everything. We were very close, him and I. Suddenly I heard my Dad call for
dinner. So I wiped my tears away and ran downstairs to the dining room.
Apparently I hadn’t wiped the tears away enough because my big brother said
“What’s wrong squirt?” I answered nothing and my mom frowned. “Katie,” she said
softly. “Is it because you’ll miss your friends, and have to leave Juno?” I
nodded. “I’ll miss him two squirt.” My brother Jon added. “STOP CALLING ME
SQUIRT! I’M NOT THAT SMALL! AND I HATE THE NICKNAME! IT’S EMBARRASSING! HOW
WOULD YOU LIKE IT IF I CALLED YOU GIANT? YOU WOULDN’T LIKE IT WOULD YOU?”I screamed.
Jon got tears in his eyes. He had always called me squirt, because he was 6
years older than me. I ran upstairs, plopped down on my bed, and started
sobbing. A few minutes later I heard a soft knock, it was my little sister
Sadie. She was the youngest and only three. “Katie? Aw ou mad?” she said in her
usual cute way. “No Sadie, I’m not mad. I’m sad, because I have to leave
Birdie.”(I said Birdie because she never called him Juno.) “Why?” she asked.
“”Cause we are moving Sadie.” I answered. “Oh, well ou can wite to him.” “No,
Sadie I can’t because birds can’t read.” I said. “Oh, well I wotta go.” And
after that she left, and I finished my letter and went back down to eat.
Well,
finally the day came to leave. I told everyone good-bye, and dropped off Juno.
A few
days later we would be in Pennsylvania. I had packed all my things and we were
ready to go. I told Juno one more good-bye and kissed him once more, and left
with tears rolling down my cheeks, and
Juno looking curiously at me. Well, we finally arrived in Pennsylvania. It was
beautiful. But I still wasn’t happy. I missed Juno, and that was that.
Well,
everything was working fine, we had been there four months, and it was my
birthday. I had no friends yet, so I didn’t have a party. I just hanged with my
family. Finally present time came and I went to my room to get my present. I
saw a cage with a parakeet in it. I stared at it with a blank expression on my
face, as my family yelled “SURPRISE!” I looked at them and shook my head in a
happy way. The parakeet looked just like Juno! As I stared at it with my mouth
wide open, my mom asked “Honey, it’s not Juno, but it needed a good home, so…
we got it for you. Do you like it?” “Oh mom, DO I LIKE IT? I LOVE IT!!! Thank
you so much!” I replied.
As I got
home from school I checked the mail as usual. I got a letter! And I quickly
raced home to read it. “MOM!!! I GOT MAIL FROM JULIE!!!” I yelled as I got
home. “That’s great Katie.” She replied. And after that, I ran into my bedroom.
This is what the letter said.
Dear
Katie,
I have
some bad news about Juno. I had just got home from school and was about to give
him a snack when I saw, he wasn’t there! I searched the entire house, but could
not find him. I am so, so, sorry Katie. I put up posters everywhere! But still
had no news. Please don’t take this to badly.
Your Friend,
- Julie

I
started crying. “missing, gone perhaps forever?” it was my worst nightmare! I
looked over at Fruno’s cage.(My new bird). I saw two of him. One in the cage,
one not. I turned around and then looked back again “JUNO!” I screamed. He had
come back to me. He flew over and landed on my shoulder. “MOM! DAD! JON! SADIE!
JUNO’S COME HOME!!!” I started crying tears of joy as my family, my whole
family crowded me. I let Fruno out of his
cage and let him land on me. Everyone started praising God, and
showering Juno with kisses’. And then my
brother let out three words, “You cool bird!” And then Juno took a bow.
The
End :)
