Christina's Plan

“Yuck! I hate broccoli!” Andy screamed. “I won’t eat it!” he shouted “Come on, just one more bite, for mommy?” my mom coaxed. He looked at her lovingly, you see, he was a rock solid, without a doubt, nothing can stop him, mamma’s boy! “Mom, you don’t need to coax him. I would just shove it up his nose till he ate it.” I told mom. “Yes Hon, but, then not only would he hate me, still not like broccoli, be mad, and-“ “Would eat his broccoli!” I interrupted. “I don’t think I will ever let you get married! You have the weirdest ideas about marriages, and not to mention children! Who agrees with me?” she replied and asked. The room was chorused with my family agreeing with her. I shrugged in a good-natured way. “Well, all I know is that you guys are just joking. If I were you mom, I would not let Andy marry either. He won’t like what his wife cooks!” everyone laughed. This is the usual meal at our house, laughter is the law!
“MOMMMM!!! I got it! I got it! I got it!” I screamed as I ran into the house. “Got what Christina?” she asked. I got a huge smile. “I got the part in the play “Little Women” I am playing Jo, so excited!” I answered. “That’s great Christina! I knew that you would make it! How about we go and celebrate with some ice cream at Dairy Queen?” she asked. “Okay!” I shouted. “I will go and get Andy!” I said. Well, as we were driving we saw a few emergency vehicles racing down the street, I sighed, this did not surprise me because it was snowing, and usually SOMETHING went wrong when it snowed. We arrived after about a half an hour of driving, it was bad traffic. We ordered, I ordered a sundae, Andy ordered a milkshake, and mom didn’t even order ice cream, she ordered a small order of French fries. We got our food, ate it, and then left. It seemed like more and more accidents kept occurring, I remembered last summer when we got in a wreck, and we got out pretty safely, except Andy, who got out and lived (obviously) but did have a few bruises, we were t-boned and he was on the side that got hit. No, these were more likely than not a lot more serious. I sighed, “Christina, what’s wrong?” Andy asked. “Well, you know a lot of accidents happen here in the winter? I just wish that I could maybe prevent them from ever happening. But that’s impossible!” I answered my voice low. “Honey, you can’t prevent them. But you can pray that they won’t happen. But in the mean time, let us be thankful we have never been in too bad of an accident.” Mom said. “Okay.” I answered, forcing a smile to come on my lips.
The next day I woke up, “time to start some school” I thought, “Oh no wait it is still snowing out.” I groggily got out of bed, got dressed, and then started to brush my short auburn hair. “WAIT!” I had thought up a plan. I hurried to brush my hair and ran down to breakfast to share my idea with my family. “Guys! Guess what I just thought of a plan to help the people that get in car wrecks, or even better, people in the hospital!” I shouted. “Well?” my mom asked. “What is it?” “Okay, it goes like this. I can read stories, and run errands for the people in the hospital.” I said excitedly. “that would be wonderful honey! But you can’t do it alone. You would be so worn out, and what about school?” My mom asked. “That’s another thing. Andy, you know that I love you-“ I began, but got interrupted. “You know, you don’t have to love dove and bribe me, sure I will help!” he cut me off. I gave him a huge hug! And we talked about school and came up with, on Saturdays, and Sundays, I would help. Along with after school on Wednesdays! We had it all figured out!
Well, we got a hold of the hospital and they agreed to what Andy called “My Master Plan”. The first day I woke up and remembered I had to go to the hospital. I ran into Andy’s room “Andy!” I yelled. “Wake up! We need to go to the hospital!” “WHY?! WHAT’S WRONG?” “Nothing sleepy head. But hurry! We got to go!” I answered him excitedly. Well, after a little reluctance he got up, got dressed, ate breakfast, made his bed, cleaned the disaster he called his room, and we were off! Luckily the Hospital was not too far away, so, we walked. We were super duper excited when we arrived. One thing you need to know about me, I have always wanted to be a nurse. And just think of it, I get to help in a real hospital! When we walked in everything seemed on the go, Andy was surprised how busy it was, but I wasn’t, I remembered very clearly how busy it was when I had to go to the hospital when I choked on Andy’s toy hippo. But that is another story! A nurse handed me and Andy both a small uniform, which was a bit big on Andy, but fit me just right! They told us we were to help on the children’s quarters. We had to ask for directions and that annoyed the head nurse. “I will just get another nurse to show you where you are to go!” she growled. And we were shown where to go. We were amazed at how many children there were. “Wow.” Andy gasped.  The nurse said we had to choose what child we wanted to help. I chose a little girl, about the age of nine who really needed help. Whereas Andy chose a boy his age who was  there because he had pneumonia. I went to school and we told others about what we were doing. And one by one other people of all ages joined! Soon, it was like an organization that I ran! We held meetings at my house sometimes so that we could figure out shifts for everyone! Most of the time, no one even called in sick. It was awesome! After every rare meeting that we happened to have, mom would bake us cookies, and we would bake cookies for the hospital children.  I loved how their little faces lit up when they saw us bring trays in that had tin foil covering them. Then Andy thought up another great plan, we would collect old toys from other people to give to the children in the hospital! It was great, then I thought that we should make posters, asking people to help the children and other sick patients. My phone number was posted on the poster so people could call about details. Soon adults and kids started calling my phone a lot. This is how my first call went.
PHONE: RRRIIINNNNGGG!!!
Me: Hello?
Person: Uh, hello. I want to help with the hospital thingy.
Me: oh. Can I please get  your name?
Person: Sure. I’m Wendy Walker. My dad and brothers want to help, oh, and don’t worry only one is a younger brother. He’s 8 though… anyway, my dad is Phil Walker, my mom is Janice Walker, my oldest brother is John, he’s sixteen. Then there’s Luke, my other older brother. He’s thirteen, and then there’s Joey, he’s, like I said, eight. So can we join?
Me: SURE!
Wendy: Okay, thanks! Bye, oh wait one more thing. I’ll meet you Saturday  at the hospital at, hmm, five?
So soon, these were basically the calls that we got 25/9! Everyone everywhere was working at different hospitals all over the state, soon I hoped all over the world! Every hospital was very grateful, but insisted that  they pay us somehow! So, this is what they gave us, it’s a really really great prize. The hospital in return gave us free shots. (Oh goody!) soon, it wasn’t just Sunday, Saturday, and after school on Wednesday! It was all the time, every week! And the toys we got were really great! Sometimes I found brand new toys in the box that someone was generous enough to give and there was enough people to help other children, and then some! So I guess you could say that it was a huge success! We even held a Christmas celebration! We bought toys, one toy for every child. I bought one toy for the little nine year old, it was a Peppermint Puppy Webkinz. We had cookies, treats and even a Christmas tree. The head nurse read the Christmas story to all the children. (Matthew 1-2)well, I have nothing else to write except that I hope you will also pray for these children so that the children room will not be so full!
THE END! J
