Jane breathed the summer air happily as she sat in the
sunshine, gazing up at the clouds cloud gazing was one of her favorite activities.
“I like that one; it looks like a small bunny rabbit.” Jane said to her friend
Marcia Cosby. “I like it too,” Marcia agreed. “But to me it looks more like a
hare.” She said. Jane giggled. Marcia always could find some way to find a word
that was just like the thing you mentioned, but with a different name! Marcia
looked over at Jane. “What’s so funny?” she asked in her serious way, but Jane
still saw that her eyes were twinkling with laughter. “Nothing’” Jane said
suspiciously .Marcia smiled and eyed Jane oddly. “What?” Jane said. “Nothing’”
Marcia quoted. Jane smiled. “Let’s go and get some lemonade from mom, I can also
smell fresh cookies!” Jane said happily. Marcia nodded her head in agreement.
“Mom! Mrs. Robbins!” Marcia and Jane called. Jane’s mother appeared from the kitchen,
a plate of cookies in her hand. The two girls smiled widely as Rachel and
Randy, Jane’s two younger twin siblings’s appeared in the doorway. “Thank you
mommy.” Randy squealed as he grabbed a cookie off the plate without asking.
“You’re supposed to ask!” Rachel said in disgust. Randy shrugged, grabbed
another cookie off the plate, without asking, and handed it to Rachel. Rachel
stared at the hand with the cookie that was stretched out towards her. “Ewwww!”
she grunted. “You touched it!” she exclaimed. Rachel was quite squeamish. “Mom
touched it to!” Randy said. “Mommy doesn’t have boy germs!” Rachel replied
loudly. Randy groaned as if he was annoyed. “Whatever.” He said under his
breath, and then he took a big chomp out of the cookie he had offered to Rachel.
Rachel stared, her eyes as big and
wide as a UFO.”Mommy, can I please have a cookie?” Rachel asked, her face was
saying that she was annoyed by Randy’s odd behavior. “Yes you may.” Jane’s Mom said as she handed Rachel both two
cookies. The twins ran off upstairs into her secret fortress. No one knew what
they did up their all day, but the room was still clean when mom tucked them
in. “And as for you two, here you are.”
Jane’s mom said as she handed Marcia and Jane both three cookies and a glass of
lemonade. “Thanks mom!” Jane cried as she and Marcia went out the back door and
into Jane’s yard to enjoy the cool summer breeze, and the comfortable warmth of
the sun that was trying so hard to get out of the way of the clouds that were
closing in, predicting a storm. “Looks like rain.” Jane said. “Nah, the clouds
just look moist. Like they are about to send down water in the form of tiny
drops.” Marcia “disagreed”. Jane rolled her eyes and sat up. “You know,” she
began. “We ought to do something for mom, you know, for the cookies.” “And the
lemonade!” Marcia added. “Yeah, the lemonade to.” Jane said. “Well, what should
we do Jane?” Marcia asked. “I don’t know, hey, we could get her a bouquet of
flowers, a really pretty one too!” Jane suggested. “Or we could get her some nice little pieces of plants, with
little petals on them, in some wrapping!” Marcia said. Jane giggled and they
both bounded towards the door. “Mom, Marcia and I are going to the store,
okay?!” Jane shouted through the door. “Alright Honey.” Jane’s mom appeared.
“Make sure you bring the umbrella, looks like rain!” Jane’s mom said. Jane covered
Marcia’s mouth playfully and grabbed the umbrella her mom was giving to her,
then she and Marcia ran off. “Well, thank
you!” Marcia said sarcastically. Jane snorted, “Whatever.” She said. They
arrived at the store and went to the flower section. “This one!” Jane said.
“No, I like the one with purple geraniums, and yellow daisies, and-““That’s the
one I pointed to silly!” Jane interrupted. “I wasn’t finished.” Marcia said
with an I am perfect! air. “And pink
azaleas!” “Aze who?” Jane asked. “Azaleas.”
Marcia corrected. “Gesundheit!” Jane said. Jane heard a rustling behind her,
“What?” Marcia asked. Jane looked up and pointed to where she heard the sound.
Marcia heard the rustling too. “What is
it?” Marcia whispered. “I don’t know do you?” Jane whispered back. Marcia
thought a moment. “Maybe we should go see.” She suggested. Jane nodded
silently, and then they both headed towards the sound. The rustling kept
getting louder and louder, the tension grew more and more. “It’s someone, maybe
a criminal!” Jane said excitedly. “ARF!” “Do criminal’s bark?” Marcia asked.
“None that I know of. It sounds like a dog, I wonder if we can get it over to
us by bribing it.” Jane said. “Wait!” Marcia warned. “What?” “Maybe that dog is
vicious, or perhaps it has rabies!” Marcia said. Jane looked puzzled, she
didn’t think that a insane dog would just bark, and that would be it. “Marcia,
if it had rabies, it wouldn’t just bark. It would be acting all crazy, and it
would start biting people.” Jane reasoned. Marcia thought a moment. “You’re
right.” She said. “Well? Come on, lets see what this dog looks like.” Jane
demanded. Marcia nodded, and they headed towards the dog. But, when they looked
they saw no dog. All that they saw was a few boxes, all stacked up in a pile.
“W-W-Where’s the dog?” Marcia stuttered. “I don’t know!” Jane replied. “ARF!”
“QUIET!” a voice yelled. Jane and Marcia looked around for the voice. They
turned around-“You shouldn’t be here.” A tall 17 year old boy greeted them
nicely. The two girls were silent. The boy just stared at them. “We meant no
harm, we heard a bark, and were trying to find the dog.” Jane spoke up. The
boy’s eyes softened. “Well, i- um, the dog is mine.” He said as he looked up at
the boxes that almost tipped over and fell. “YIP!” he heard one of them bark.
Marcia eyed him curiously. “My lie detector is beeping wildly.” She whispered
to Jane. Jane nodded. “Can we see your dog?” she asked. The boy looked
panicked. “Um, my name is Tony.” He said, as if trying to stall them. Marcia
and Jane glared at him. “We wish to see your dog!” Marcia demanded. “Oh, sure
thing, come back tomorrow.” He said. Marcia shrugged and took a picture of the logo on the box with her phone as he
turned around to get something for the girls. The logo looked like a unicorn
having a bad mane day, that’s why she wanted a picture of it. “Here, I’ll see
you tomorrow.” He said as he handed the girls both a tootsie pop each. Marcia and
Jane turned around, and left the store. “Something’s wrong about that Tony
guy.” Marcia said. “Yeah, I don’t know about you, but I wanna find that dog and
save it- before its to late!” Jane agreed. Late that night they searched the
computer about the logo on the boxes. They found out that what Tony was really
doing was he stole thing’s from store’s- in bulk. After he stole the thing’s he
would ship it and sell it as his own product. And the girl’s figured tat he was
selling, of taking the dog with him. They couldn’t let Tony take the dog, who knows
what would happen to it if he did. They did not trust him- at all they wanted
the dog safe, so they thought up a plan. After they reserched They let the
police know what they were doing. They went to the police station and asked if
they could go in the tore to get the dog. The police at first did not buy what
they were saying, but the girls explained the whole matter. They explained the
thievery that was goin on, and the dog being locked up in a box. The police called the ASPCA and Jane
told her mother what was going on. Her mother said that they could carry on
with their plan, and they did. They arrived at the store and the store owner
opened the door for them, the police had contacted him ahead of time. Marcia
and Jane led a few police men to the place where they heard the barking. A
police man brought down a box and Jane opened it. “Underwear!” Jane exclaimed. “Keep
going!” Marcia urged. They opened another box and found dried plums, a.k.a.,
prunes. They opened box after box and
became very tired, they opened one more box and found a small golden retriever
puppy inside of it. “Ohh!” Jane and Marcia cooed. “Come on, we gotta take it
home!” Jane said. “Text your mom and tell her you will spend the night at my
house, because there is a storm outside and we don’t want you getting wet.”
Jane ordered Marcia. “Okay.” Marcia said. They brought the puppy home, the
police had given them a ride home so that they would not get soaked. Marcia and
Jane dried the puppy off and gave it a bath. Then they fed it milk and wet,
soft meat. “May I keep it mom?” Jane asked. Her mother thought a moment, then
she looked at the glass fish tank which held another one of Jane’s adorable
pets she rescued, Petty, her pet crab. “Yes you may, it’s a girl.” Jane’s
mother told her. Jane’s eyes lit up. “Ohh! YAY! I think I’ll call her, Tootsie,
after what Tony gave us!” Jane squealed. Jane now had a new puppy. Randy and
Rachel trotted down happily. “A puppy!” Rachel squeaked. “Acually, it’s a canine!”
Marcia said. Jane rolled her eyes, again. “Well, Tootsie is now a part of the
family. Mom, thank you so much for letting me keep her!” Jane exclaimed. Randy
eyed the dog. “Mommy, why cant I have a doggie?” he asked. “Maybe when you’re
older Honey.” Jane’s mom answered.
The next day Jane was woken up by Tootsie jumping on her
bed, then she licked Jane. Marcia rolled over to pet the puppy. “I almost
forgot that she existed.” Marcia said. Jane looked at her, then she got up.
“Time to feed Petty.” She said as she dropped some lemon and lime pieces into
his tank. “Are you sure that this is what crabs eat?” Marcia asked. “No,” Jane
replied. “But he has been living on it for the past 2 years.” She said. Marcia
shrugged. “He must have a taste for citrus!” she said. “Let’s go and get
breakfast!” Jane suggested. Marcia nodded in agreement. “Alright.” She said.
The two girls headed downstairs. They were still in their pajamas, but they didn't care. PJ's were on of Marcia’s favorite things to wear, and Jane liked
them too. “What should we eat?” Marcia asked. “We could eat… oh I know! How
about cereal.” Jane suggested. “What kind do you have?” Marcia asked. “We have
chocolate chip cookie cereal.” “That’s a lot of C’s, to many C’s. I prefer
Cookie Crisp.” Marcia said, with a lot of attitude in her voice. “Whatever you
say!” Jane said as she poured the cookie cereal into Marcia’s bowl. “Grab the
milk please Marcia. It’s in the fridge, on the bottom shelf.” Jane told Marcia.
“Alright Jane.” Marcia said. “WAIT!” Jane said. “We forgot to feed Tootsie!”
Jane grabbed a bowl and the kibbles she had
purchased the night before, during the rescue of her beloved puppy.
“Here you go girl, you look hungry.” Jane said as she petted the Tootsie’s back
lovingly. “You little cutie!” Marcia squealed. “Come on, let’s eat or else our
cereal will get soggy. And we don’t really want that, now do we?” Jane said
happily. The two girls actually sat on the floor so that they could eat with
the dog. Tootsie did not act viciously at them when they sat down beside it
while it ate. Marcia had feared it would bite at them, like her cousin Rachel’s
dog. She hated Lilly, it was a small white dog whose jaw looked out of place
and twisted, she had a bright pink collar. It also had a little bit of brown on
its back, it hated and barked at everyone. But Tootsie didn't bite at them.
Jane figured that her dog Tootsie was the best dog in the entire earth. “Lets
take Tootsie on a walk.” Jane suggested. “ Shouldn't we ask your mom first?”
Marcia asked. “oh, I guess your right.” Jane said. “Well, don’t bother! Just go
ahead and walk that dog! I’m sure it needs to get some exercise anyways.”
Jane’s mother interrupted. Jane and Marcia ran upstairs to change their clothes
so they could walk Jane’s dog. They bounded downstairs and put Tootsie on a
leash that used to be Sparkle, Jane’s old dog’s. they walked her and she
behaved as an angel, and Tootsie would behave like that forever, at least
that’s what Jane believed and Marcia hoped!
THE END!
