Chapter
Twelve: The Cloud’s Effect
Carol leaned next to Lilli who was
staring up into the sky as the crows left. “Lilli, come on.” Carol said, but Lilli
did not budge. She closed her eyes and shuddered.
The Beavers and Lulu came to them. “It
is said that the effects of the crows wear off, but not for a long time. What
shall we do?”
Carol spun around and whispered eight
words: “In my world we hunt things like you.” Then she turned back to Lilli who
still had her eyes closed. “Come on, Lil.”
Lilli looked up and managed to sit up
against her sister.
“What shall we do?” Butterlean said
again, but they all noticed Carol was gone. “Carol!” Butterlean called and
Carol appeared soon.
“I found a nice little camp area where
we can sleep. Follow me.” Carol said as she helped Lulu get Lilli on her feet
and they walked towards the camp area she was talking about.
“Here it is!” Carol pointed to a little
cave where there was a small fire going.
“Brilliant!” Lilli exclaimed. “Oh,
wonderful, Carol! How did you find it?”
Carol suddenly got a dark expression on
her face. “That’s the thing, I was looking for shelter and I know I passed the
place up and nothing seemed to be there, but then when I turned around after
hiking quite a distance I heard a small rustle in the bushes and suddenly there
was a shelter, pile of wood and all.”
Everyone agreed this was a very strange
tale, but they did not let it bother them and soon they all curled up together.
Kumarain., who was very confused by now as what had happened to Lilli, for no
one really told her, walked up to Lilli and curled up beside her, and to
everyone’s great surprise Lilli welcomed the little beaver and soon fell asleep
with Kumarain by her side.
Chapter
Thirteen: The Journey Continues
“All right, everybody up!” Carol’s
words echoed through the woods. “Come on, now! Chop, chop!”
The beavers got up groggily and looked
at the sky. Lulu promptly sat up and asked what was for breakfast, but Lilli
just lay there, still asleep though Kumarain had left. Lulu walked over to
Lilli and gently shook her. Lilli screamed and then let out a small sigh and a
little smile. “Oh, it’s just you.” She said.
Lulu nodded and helped her up. “Yeah,
it was just me. Come on, let’s see what’s for breakfast. Lilli nodded and
replied that she was hungry, so she would love some breakfast very much.
“Oh, good morning, Lilli,” Carol
welcomed her warmly. Lilli nodded and Kumarain pounced on her.
“Good morning Liwy!” Kumarain yelled as
she threw herself at Lilli. Lilli laughed and swung Kumarain around then she
suddenly stopped and put Kumarain down, and sat down herself.
Lilli shuddered and looked vacantly at
the bird Carol was cooking, because Carol was a choice survivalist in her
nature club, she knew how. Everyone really was annoyed by Carol at the nature
club, because while the other girls wanted to learn about the animal, Carol
wanted to learn how to cook it. Not that I disagree with her, I would rather
have an animal in my plate or bowl, not on my camera, but either way she still
drove the, crazy, whether or no she even did anything. Oh well, vegetarians are
vegetarians, but how they even had the strength to do that club while eating
nothing but veggies is beyond me. Anyway, back to the story.
Lilli was beside herself in anger, as
she suddenly remembered what Kumarain had told her. Lulu had noticed Lilli’s
foul mood and decided to take it up with her. “Lilli,” she said gently. “What’s
bothering you?”
Lilli shifted uncomfortably and looked
a long look at the beavers. Then she told Lulu all about the beavers plan. Lulu
nodded in growing anger and frustration, but managed to keep calm. “I see,” she
said. “Well, we can’t go anywhere without them anyway, so we better follow and
pretend nothing is wrong." Lilli simply nodded and got up to go get
breakfast from Carol.
“Thank you, Carol,” Lilli heard
Kumarain thank her friend.
“They
are cute, aren’t they, Lilli?” Lulu said. Lilli nodded and turned her back to
her sister.
“Carol,” she got Carol’s attention
by grabbing at her sleeve. “Carol, I need to talk to you.”
Carol got up from her pot and walked
over to Lilli. “What’s up, Lilli?”
“Something is horribly wrong,” she
began to tell Carol what was going on when Juney came up and barged into their
conversation.
“Hello, what are you talking about,
if I may know?” Juney looked closely at Lilli who pressed up against Carol.
“Hmm, um, nothing really. If I may
add to the conversation though, the food is quite good, though I think I burnt
it a little.” Carol said cheerily. Lilli smiled widely and nodded.
“Yes, it is quite good. Quite good
indeed. Well, we should probably start moving now, come along!” Juney said as
she left them.
Lilli let out a sigh of relief. “Do
you think she knew? She looked awfully close at me, and it gave me the creeps!”
Lilli said with another sigh of minor exasperation.
Carol shrugged and walked towards
the beavers and Lulu with Lilli following closely behind. “Oh, I see you are
feeling better now. Seems it is more effective towards animals, yes?”
Butterlean said. They started off at such a speed that Lulu could hardly keep
up.
